July Challenge Submission from Billy

Here is my entry for July. I really like the colors and angles. I spent all day today with my father who will be 81 on Wed. It was a good day. He was responsive and tried to talk. My granddaughter Aubrey and my daughter Andrea paid us a surprise visit. It was wonderful. Aubrey fed him ice cream, and shaved him with an electric razor, as she had seen her great-grandmother do many times. The good days to come will be few. He will be going to a nursing home soon. -- Billy

  1. I like the burgundy and the gold shines from your flash and the light in the back... nice rich tones...
BTW, I know what u are going thru.. My FIL took a fall and broke his shoulder over a month ago.. In rehab.. hopefully my BIL has the brain to get him 24/7 care at home or put him in an assisted living... He's much too weak to be on his own....

  2. My father has Alzheimers. He has to be fed bathed and And cleaned. He can do nothing for his self. My mother cares for him 24/7 because she refuses to put him in a home. Soon she will have no choice.

  3. Aging. I am not going comfortably into it. There are probably very few who do. I can remebemr watching my grandfather starting to change, from a clear-headed, humorous military man to a raging, confused, and punitive man with Alzheimer's. Not nice.I wish that we all could just by step this part of life. I think your portrait reflects the murkiness, the shadow side of getting older. And yet there you are shining a light on it -- a willingness to look it straight in the face and maybe make peace with it.

  4. Billy, my bf's Dad has been in a care home since 1994, he too has Alzheimer's, and Eric is the only one around who has been in charge of his Dad and his care... Its been a long road...And I agree w/Virginia you are handling this straight on much like Eric.

  5. Thanks Chrissy and Virginia,
As my mother in law always said "growing old is not for sissy's." It is not as difficult for me as it is my brother and sister. They are taking it real hard. Mom is just angry, and afraid of death.
